What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a complementary therapy recognised by the NHS and many GP's. By applying pressure to the reflex points on the hands and feet, the body relaxes, blood circulation is improved and organs and glands become balanced.
Reflexology is not a beauty therapy or a foot massage; it is a clinical treatment with proven results and is totally safe for people of all ages.
What will happen?
A typical foot reflexology treatment lasts an hour and it is generally recommended that a course of 4-6 weekly treatments be considered, however the frequency of treatments is up to you, and may vary depending on your state of health and long-term objectives.
At your first session I will complete a health and lifestyle consultation. The treatment will then begin with some general relaxation techniques, followed by a precise thumb and finger walking technique aimed at applying pressure to every reflex area on the foot.
Reflexology is not ticklish as a firm pressure is used. If a particular part of the body is out of balance, the corresponding reflex may feel tender or sore during the treatment. It is important that you let me know so that steps may be taken to rectify this discomfort.
Who can benefit from reflexology?
Reflexology is suitable for all ages and has been shown to be effective for a wide range of conditions such as migraine, fertility, sleep disorders and hormonal imbalances, however, many people simply use reflexology as a way of relaxing the mind and body and counteracting stress. After having completed a course of reflexology treatments, many people find it beneficial to continue to have occasional treatments to maintain health and wellbeing.
How will I feel after a reflexology treatment?
After one or two treatments your body may respond in a very definite way. Most people note a sense of wellbeing and relaxation; sometimes people feel lethargic, nauseous or tearful, but this is transitory and is part of the healing process.
It is vital that you feed back this information as it shows how your body is reacting to treatment. This will help me to tailor a treatment plan specific to your needs.
If you are looking for a Reflexologist it is important to find someone who is properly trained and experienced and who can demonstrate just how effective reflexology can be at improving your health and wellbeing. Not all Reflexologists are trained to the same standards. Good reflexologists are busy and in demand.
