Biomechanics is the area of Podiatry that describes the foot and its function in mechanical terms. It allows greater understanding of the complex forces that are at work whilst we walk. A Podiatrist will assess and identify any structural or functional abnormalities in posture and walking/running. Exercises may be given to strengthen muscles of the lower legs and feet.
Othotics/Insoles these sit inside shoes acting to correct foot and limb positioning to gain optimum foot function and relieve pain. Insoles are also used to take pressure off prominent joints.
You may be asked to wear a pair of shorts for a Biomechanical assessment so that posture, foot and leg alignment can be assessed.
Nail Surgery this is a minor surgical procedure to remove a portion of in-growing nail or in some cases the entire nail. This would be undertaken if an in-growing toe nail became a chronic condition or regularly becomes infected. A local anesthetic is used and the nail bed is chemically treated to prevent re-growth and recurrence of the problem. Regular checks and re-dressings will be undertaken until healing is complete.
NB patients must undergo a foot health assessment prior to any minor surgery being carried out.
Every day we use our feet and legs to keep mobile and to allow us to get from A to B therefore having healthy feet and legs is very important to keep us healthy, fit and able to be independent.
